MikroTik wAP LTE Kit 2024 CAT4 Outdoor LTE Wi-Fi Router

The MikroTik wAP LTE kit (2024 revision) is a CAT4 outdoor LTE + 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access point delivering up to 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink — in a tiny IP54-weatherproof enclosure rated from -40°C to +60°C, running RouterOS v7 on License 4. Three power inputs (DC jack, passive PoE-in, automotive plug — all 9–30V), anti-vandal wall mounting, and the newly added Band 28 (700 MHz) for improved rural coverage. Includes 24V adapter, PoE injector, K-52 fastening set, K-50 locking set, wAP mount, ceiling mount bracket, desktop stand, and automotive cable. USD 99.00. MikroTik's own positioning: the best outdoor LTE/Wi-Fi deal on the market for tight budgets — and the 2024 modem refresh makes that claim credible.

Description

The MikroTik wAP LTE kit 2024 revision is the most accessible entry point in MikroTik's outdoor LTE product line — a compact, weatherproof, multi-purpose LTE router and Wi-Fi access point at USD 99.00. It is not the highest-performance LTE device in the catalogue — the LHG LTE18 at USD 279.00 delivers CAT18 speeds and 17 dBi directional gain for demanding last-mile deployments. The wAP LTE kit 2024 occupies a different position: small, versatile, budget-grade LTE connectivity for outdoor locations where total simplicity and low cost are the primary requirements, and where a full-size high-gain antenna system is neither necessary nor practical.

The 2024 revision's headline change is the modem upgrade. The new EC200A-EU modem brings improved LTE connectivity over the previous revision and adds Band 28 (700 MHz) to the supported LTE FDD band list. Band 28 is a critical addition for rural coverage — it is one of the primary low-band LTE frequencies used by carriers for extended rural reach in many markets. The 2024 revision also brings a significant price reduction from the previous generation, making it the most price-competitive outdoor LTE kit in the MikroTik line-up.

LTE CAT4 supports download speeds up to 150 Mbps and upload speeds up to 50 Mbps — a meaningful throughput tier for small offices, home outdoor access points, garden buildings, porch installations, vehicles, and any location requiring basic internet connectivity without a high-performance last-mile solution. The supported LTE FDD bands — 1 (2100 MHz), 3 (1800 MHz), 5 (850 MHz), 7 (2600 MHz), 8 (900 MHz), 20 (800 MHz), and 28 (700 MHz) — cover the primary LTE frequency deployments across European and many international markets. LTE TDD bands 38 (2600 MHz), 40 (2300 MHz), and 41n (2500 MHz) extend coverage to TDD-LTE markets. 3G fallback provides Category R7 connectivity (21 Mbps downlink, 5.76 Mbps uplink) on bands 1, 5, and 8, with 2G Class12 fallback on bands 3 and 8 — ensuring connectivity continuity at sites where LTE signal is temporarily unavailable or absent.

The three independent power inputs are the standout deployment flexibility feature. The DC jack (9–30V), passive PoE-in (9–30V), and automotive plug (9–30V) cover virtually every power scenario:

- **DC jack:** Standard wall adapter, solar charge controller, or battery supply

- **Passive PoE-in:** Powered from the included PoE injector or any passive PoE source — single cable from indoors carries both power and data

- **Automotive plug:** Powers directly from a vehicle's 12V or 24V electrical system via the included 0.35m 4-pin automotive adapter cable

The automotive input is a genuine differentiator at this price point. The wAP LTE kit can be installed in commercial vehicles, fleet trucks, construction site equipment, caravans, recreational vehicles, and maritime vessels — permanently powered from the vehicle's electrical system, providing LTE internet and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity wherever the vehicle travels. The E-MARK certification (confirmed in the spec table) validates the wAP LTE kit for permanent installation in vehicles — E-MARK is the European automotive electronics certification standard.

The physical installation design reflects MikroTik's attention to field deployment realities. The case fastens to any external wall from the inside — meaning the screws and mount hardware are concealed inside the unit and cannot be accessed without opening the case. The bottom section adds an optional anti-vandal screw that requires the owner's specific tool to remove — appropriate for public-facing, outdoor, or unattended installations where tamper resistance is required. The cable exit at the rear of the case routes the Ethernet cable directly through the wall — the wAP mounts flush against the surface with no visible external cabling. MikroTik's framing: "the wAP attracts less attention and blends into any environment."

The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio (802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi 4, 2-chain, 300 Mbps max, 2 dBi internal antenna) provides local Wi-Fi distribution from the LTE uplink — the wAP LTE kit functions as both an LTE router and a Wi-Fi access point simultaneously. For a garden office, porch installation, or vehicle deployment, this eliminates the need for a separate indoor Wi-Fi access point behind the LTE gateway.

RouterOS v7 on License 4 provides full network management capability — firewall, QoS, VPN, DHCP, scripting, and MQTT — on the gateway device itself. Software updates are included for the life of the product, guaranteed minimum 5 years from purchase. The MiniPCI-e slot provides modem expansion capability — the installed EC200A-EU modem can be replaced with a compatible MiniPCI-e LTE modem for alternative band or technology support, without replacing the entire device.

The included hardware is unusually comprehensive for a USD 99.00 device. The full kit contains: 24V 0.8A power adapter, PoE injector, K-52 fastening set, K-50 locking set, wAP desktop stand, wAP mount, 0.35m 4-pin automotive adapter cable, wAP ceiling mount bracket. Every primary deployment scenario — wall mount, ceiling mount, desktop, vehicle — is covered by included hardware with no additional accessory purchase required.
